I discovered The Assembly Line Oversized Shirt through a few of my favourite sewists on Instagram. I love wearing shirts, and shirt dresses that don’t feel cutesy. This design is the perfect blend of relaxed and professional. My ideal garment!

I bought this beautiful woven cotton from a fabric destash event I had a stall it. I love the crispness of the fabric and the combination of colours. I chose The Assembly Line shirt pattern. I had plenty of fabric, so I lengthened the pattern by 15cm to make a short sleeve shirtdress.
I made size S as I didn’t want the dress to be too oversized. Next time I will make size L (which was what was recommended for my measurement) for a bit more ease. I may even make a straight across hem rather than a curved hem.

The pattern is well drafted and has excellent instructions. The Assembly Line makes great patterns!

The pattern is drafted with a collar but also has a separate collar expansion pack which you can buy to extend the range of looks. I changed the collar shape by lengthening the collar to make it longer and pointer. I decided to make a belt and belt loops to go with the dress so then I can style the garment in different ways.
So far, this garment has been an awesome addition to my wardrobe. It can be layered with tights and boots, sneakers, or dresser shoes for work.
