McCalls 7637 Bomber Jacket

Hi friends!

I’m excited to share with you the latest creation for Mr P: a McCalls 7637 Bomber Jacket.

Regular readers won’t be surprised to see me make up this pattern. I’ve made it around 9 times using a number of different fabrics. My first post about this pattern includes all the fitting adjustment.

This fabric is a stunning linen from Ellie Whittaker Studio. Ellie is a fabric designer from Australia who creates textile designs. This is made using one of her custom linen fabrics. The design is digitally printed on a white linen. I’m pretty fussy with fabric and I was pretty disappointed with the quality of this linen. It is $40 AUD ish a meter excluding $25 shipping to NZ. It is lightweight and quite sheer. To make the linen a suitable weight for a jacket I interfaced the whole body of the jacket with a medium weight white interfacing. I also added shoulder pads for extra shaping.

I lined the fabric with a viscose blend lining from Jones and Taylor. We need to visit Mary to top up my lining stash!

I normally stash zips to make these jackets. I discovered I’d used my last 60cm, metal, open-ended zipper. I searched high and low for these in NZ, even contacting unfriendly wholesalers! but had to buy more from AliExpress. I hate not having items on-hand when I need them and with shipping delays it pays to order ahead as international parcels are taking ages!

As you can see Paul loves his new jacket. He loves being profiled here and on my Instagram. He loves reading all your comments.

Check out the rainbow of jackets which lives at our front door. They make me smile and always get lots of complements from visitors.

It must be the season for orange! I have been thinking about making some orange pants for ages. I made these linen Emerson pants which I’m loving! It’s very satisfying how well Paul’s jacket and my pants tone together.

We’ve both been leaning into the idea of dopamine dressing lately. Colour definitely has an effect on my mood so I’ve been having fun wearing more colour and less black.

    1. Hi Lisa! Thank you yes definitely. What fabrics would you use? I would want something soft against my skin which may limit your choices. Would love to hear what you create x

I have recently arrived in Cameroon and wanted to try to different Ankara fabrics, will see if I get brave enough. I haven’t made hardly any clothes. I am much more into quilting. Thank you for your reply.
