Jungle January is a sewing challenge held during January which challenges you to make a garment in jungle print from your stash and then share on social media using the hashtag #junglejanuary. I took part in 2016 as well with my friend Teresa.
I’m not really into animal print so it’s quite a challenge for me! This year I found this amazing chiffon at The Fabric Warehouse’s 40% off sale I bought some as the print was too fun to leave behind. The fabric is a sheer chiffon which I underlined with cotton voile from the stash in a similar colourway.
The top is a Marilla Walker Maya top without sleeve bands. I attached the lining at the neck of the outer fabric sewing the right sides together and top stitched it in place. The lining is shorter at the hem and sleeves. Originally I planned to create a gathered skirt to attach to the top which looked like a unflattering sack. I nearly abandoned the skirt thankfully an Instagram poll persuaded me to turn it into a two-piece spectacular!
I finished off both the sleeve and skirt hem on the overlocker using the rolled hem feature. My finished two-piece look is fun and quite different to what I normally wear. Long-term It will be interesting to see how the pieces incorporate with the rest of my wardrobe. I wore the top to work a month ago the top provided the perfect pop of colour with solid neutrals. Below I’m wearing my Blackwood Cardigan and a Megan Nielsen Axel Skirt
I hope you like my finished look. Thanks for reading!
